Studio 23 Performing Arts is a performing arts school, based in Forest Hill, South East London.  The school is run by Yvonne Scott who has over twenty-five years experience of preparing students for a professional career within the entertainment industry.

The school’s view is to get the most out of all its students, offering affordable classes, whilst maintaining a high standard of training within a friendly environment. Studio 23 Performing Arts has a team of committed professional staff who will prepare students to work professionally in the arts or to satisfy children’s budding interest in dance, acting or singing. Our school is committed to promote equal opportunities and prevent discrimination. Studio 23 Wiseman partake in charity work throughout the year, supporting charities such as Cancer Research and the local hospices.

At the end of each term we hold Open Days, where parents/carers are invited to come and watch their child taking classes. This is a great opportunity to see how their child is progressing, and have a brief discussion with their child’s teacher.

Over several years of teaching, Yvonne Scott has prepared previous students for professional competitions, auditions and for entry to several top performing arts colleges in the UK.  Some of her ex-students’ performance success stories are Amy Webb (preformed in Mama Mia), Durone Stokes (currently performing in Dreamgirls Savoy Theatre West End), Glen Murphy (runner up for Britain got Talent – Twist and Pulse), and James Goode  (preformed in Riverdance, and Celebrity Equinox Cruises 2017)

TAP: A form of dance greatly popular with our younger students due to the “special shoes that make noise”, tap is a unique style of dance greatly reliant on an appreciation for rhythm…and loose ankles! From moves such as your basic straight tap to wing pendulums, Studio 23 aims to teach all levels of students; beginner or expert, toddler or adult. Although we follow the NATD Tap syllabus, we aim to teach not only the traditional styles of Tap but also the more unconventional ways to enable our students to get a broader understanding of the unlimited possibilities of dance.
MODERN: For those wishing to avoid the classical ways of ballet, modern dance is a looser style focussing more on creative self-expression than on technical boundaries. Modern dance is a varied and ever-changing form of dance (hence the name). At Studio 23 we focus mainly on following the NATD Modern syllabus as well as teaching our students elements of Contemporary, Jazz and more lyrical aspects of the discipline.
BALLET: Ballet, the dream of many young girls (and, thanks to movie’s such as Billy Elliot, young boys too!) is the most traditional and technical style of dance. It demands great discipline and although physically and mentally challenging, it provides an important foundation for not only other dance styles but life in general. Here at Studio 23 we enforce the fundamentals of the style whilst following the NATD and also offer advanced ballet dancers the opportunity to attend separate classes in order to develop the Pointe technique.
STREET JAZZ: Street jazz, also known as street dance, is the collective name associated with the group of styles and techniques born outside of the conventional streams of dance. Including branches such as break dancing, krumping and popping, Street Jazz demands high energy and at Studio 23 you are able to progress through the classes learning a variety of moves and techniques from your basic body roll to waving, isolations to boogaloo. We offer exams in Street Jazz with the IDTA/NATD exam board.
